TRADITIONAL KARATE CLASSES
Mini Pee Wee (ages 5-6) W, 30 min;
Emphasis is on basic motor skills, self-control, and fun to help children develop a strong foundation for future karate study. Four levels of advancement are possible. Certificates and pins are awarded for each level completed.
Pee Wee (ages 7-12) W, 45 min;
For beginners and continuing students ranked PW 1 – PW 9, this class provides full martial arts instruction, working on fitness, coordination, and team drills as well as emphasis on building motor skills, coordination and self-control with increasingly difficult drills and exercises. While enrolled in this class, the children learn all the material for the Adult White Belt test, broken into 9 levels to facilitate consistent progression. Belts are earned at each level, from PW 1 through PW 9. Partial Gi is required at PW 1 with full Gi required at PW 4. There is lots of camaraderie and fun in this class, with extra emphasis on the martial arts way of life: academic excellence, responsibility, and respect.
Junior/Adult Belts (ages 12+) TU, 60 min;
For our older beginners ages 12 and up and continuing students ranked White through Brown Belt, this class teaches the first 8 Kyu (solid belt) levels. The standard Shorei Goju Ryu karate curriculum taught in this class is a mix of exercise, coordination drills, two-man drills, forms instruction, and self-defense is taught throughout the term. This is a great class for teens, parents with their teens, or adults who want to learn karate and improve their fitness level.
