Sensei Carroll

Master John Carroll has been studying karate for over 37 years. He earned his 1st degree black belt in 1981 and was just promoted to 8th degree black belt through the American Karate Association (AKA) in January 2010. He has trained hundreds of students in the Lincoln-Way area in karate, tai chi, chi kung, hsing – i, kickboxing, weight training, and self-defense.

Master Carroll is a retired Sergeant from the Stateville Maximum Security Prison in Joliet, Illinois. Master Carroll worked in the Illinois Prison System for 29.5 years, first at Joliet Prision and then at Stateville. During his tenure in corrections, Master Carroll worked as a Training Coordinator, Trainer, a Sniper Trainer Instructor for the Illinois Dept of Corrections, and a Correctional Sergeant. Through this experience he learned to apply his martial arts skills to real-world situations, and he brings this practical knowledge to his karate students, helping them learn the practical self-defense applications of the forms.

Sempai Mark

Sempai Mark started studying Martial Arts in 1991 in Laramie, WY where he earned the rank of yellow belt in Kempo. He joined Carroll’s Martial Arts in March 2006, soon after his son Ryan started karate. He is currently a 1st Class Brown Belt.

Mr. Mark works at Joe Rizza Porsche and Ford as a Master Mechanic.

Mr. Mark`s daughter, Hailey, is in our Junior Belts class and also helps him in the Mini and Pee Wee program.
